We at Lacy Fork strive to provide the highest quality grass fed beef in our area. As to our history, when we began our operation, we were initially focused on recovering the pastures to provide quality Coastal hay pastures.
With the proper fencing, we were able to then carve out proper grazing pastures for cattle. Our initial foray into the next phase started with around 30 Angus cows and progressed upward, until we reached a current herd of over 100.
We currently have approximately 150 acres of grazing pasture with an additional 100 acres of hay pasture. This allows us to control the nutrition needs of our cattle from calf to processing.
From our family to yours – enjoy the most delicious beef there is.
With 100% grass fed beef, the premise is quite straightforward. Our meat is devoid of all you do not want – hormones, GMO’s, antibiotics, and pesticides. With free roaming on grass, no grain is given to your beef, nor is the beef raised in confinement.
We do not find it necessary to hide behind government labels that permit such things to be included in your meat. We firmly believe raising our beef on open grass pastures, in addition to only supplementing the diet with plant based materials yields superior beef.
Grass-fed beef is a type of meat that comes from cows that have been raised on a diet of grass and other forages, rather than grain-based feed. This type of beef has gained popularity in recent years due to the numerous health and environmental benefits it offers.
One of the main benefits of grass-fed beef is that it is generally leaner and lower in fat than grain-fed beef. This means that it can be a healthier choice for those looking to control their fat intake and maintain a healthy weight. Grass-fed beef also tends to be higher in beneficial nutrients such as omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin E, and conjugated linoleic acid (CLA). Omega-3 fatty acids are known to have anti-inflammatory properties and may help to reduce the risk of heart disease and other chronic health conditions. Vitamin E is an antioxidant that helps to protect cells from damage, while CLA has been shown to have a number of potential health benefits including reducing the risk of cancer and improving body composition.
In addition to the nutritional benefits, grass-fed beef can also be better for the environment. Cows raised on a diet of grass and other forages are able to graze on pasture land, which can help to reduce the carbon footprint of beef production. Pasture-based systems can also help to improve soil health and reduce erosion, as the roots of the grasses and other plants help to hold the soil in place.
Another advantage of grass-fed beef is that it can be more humane for the cows. Cows are naturally herbivorous animals and are better suited to a diet of grass and other forages than grain-based feed. In contrast, grain-fed cows are often raised in crowded and confined conditions, which can be stressful and detrimental to their health and well-being.
Overall, grass-fed beef offers a number of potential benefits for human health, cattle and the environment. While it may be healthier, it also can be a great value! Buying grass-fed beef by the 1/4, 1/2, or whole is often comparable to buying beef off the shelf at the big box stores or grocery. Our ground grass fed beef is an excellent value. Buying larger portions like this, often called "freezer beef" is economical and reduces the number of trips you make to the store. Grass fed freezer beef can be a healthier and more sustainable choice for those who prefer knowing where their beef comes from and want to rest easy knowing their freezer is full.
